Gingrey Statement on October Unemployment Numbers
Washington, DC – Congressman Gingrey released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s announcement that 190,000 jobs were lost in October alone. National unemployment figures for October hit 10.2%, the highest number since 1983.
Congressman Phil Gingrey’s statement is as follows:
“Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned, and apparently, this Administration and Democrats in Congress would rather push a government take-over of health care than address the hemorrhaging of jobs from the economy. Unemployment is at the highest level in 26 years, and yet, many of the policies enacted by this Congress have been counter-productive. Almost 3 million jobs have been lost since the so-called stimulus bill was signed by President Obama, and according to economic models developed by the President’s own advisors, the Democratic Health Care Bill—H.R. 3962—could bleed the economy of another 5.5 million jobs.
“Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid need to shelve their attempts to take over health care and immediately address our Nation’s economic woes. It is deeply disturbing to me how out-of-touch the President and Democratic Majority are with what our priorities should be in Washington.”
