Gingrey announces VA Supermarket program, delivers update on Rome VA clinic
Rome,
Jul 2, 2007 -
U.S. Congressman Phil Gingrey today announced that the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs will bring its annual state-wide VA Supermarket to Rome on December 6, 2007. The Supermarket, which allows veterans to learn about and apply for a wide variety of benefits and services, hasn’t been held in Rome since 1985.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our veterans,” said Gingrey. “The Supermarket brings together 18 government agencies to assist our veterans with medical claims, Social Security questions and more. This is one-stop shopping for our veterans, and I thank Commissioner Pete Wheeler for hosting this year’s event in Rome. As a physician, I know that when our veterans have access to healthcare services, they can live healthier lives. The Supermarket will help us achieve that goal.”
Gingrey also delivered an update on the Rome VA clinic, which is expected to open this fall.
“Progress on the clinic is moving right along,” said Gingrey. “The VA has hired a physician assistant, completed interviews for nursing staff, and begun the build-out of the clinic interior. Soon, our veterans won’t have to travel to Atlanta and Chattanooga for care; they’ll be able to get it right here in Northwest Georgia. The tremendous community effort to bring a VA clinic to Rome has paid off, and I look forward to celebrating with our veterans on opening day.”
The Rome VA clinic, located at 30 Chateau Drive in Rome, will be open four days a week, 10 hours a day. It will be staffed by two physicians and a physician assistant, as well as nursing and administrative staff, a dietician and a pharmacist. The clinic will be used for primary care services, and will also house basic lab and radiology services. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2007.
