Ground truth along the border

Next week, I’m leading a group of my colleagues on a trip to our nation’s southern border, where we’ll be examining the successes and shortcomings of U.S. border security.  Illegal immigration is one of the most pressing problems here in America, and I am very eager to see the situation along the border first hand.

Here are a few highlights from my itinerary:

 Tour of high-traffic border sections, including the infamous “Smuggler’s Gulch” and several tunnels.
 Briefing and demonstration of Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAEs), a cutting-edge technology used to spot illegal immigrants crossing the border.
 Briefing and tour of high-tech border wall construction
 Briefings with members of the Border Patrol, state and local law enforcement officials, and National Guardsmen serving along the border.
 Tour and briefing at the Command and Control Intelligence Coordination Center, a border base of operation.
 Tour of Nogales, Arizona Point of Entry/ Cargo facility

I’ll be sure to keep you updated next week. It should be a very educational experience.
