Gingrey votes to protect taxpayers against Obamacare fraud, waste
Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D., today voted for the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, H.R. 2775, which requires use of a verification system in order to determine eligibility for Obamacare subsidies. This summer, the Obama Administration announced it would allow individuals to “self attest” that he or she meets the income requirements in order to qualify for premium tax credits. This bill, which passed the House by a vote of 235-191, requires Health and Human Services to follow current law and requires certification by the Inspector General.
“The Obama administration cares more about boosting enrollment numbers and a political ‘win’ than safeguarding taxpayers from staggering fraud and abuse,” Gingrey said. “This has the potential to become one of the biggest cases of fraud in taxpayer history. Eligibility verification is not only required by law—which the administration has chosen to ignore again—it ensures that aid reaches the most vulnerable Americans for whom it was intended. The Obama administration’s reckless disregard of taxpayer dollars for political gain must be stopped.”
The White House issued a veto threat for this legislation.
