Gingrey applauds SGR reform, individual mandate delay
Today, H.R. 4015, the SGR Repeal and Medicare Provider Payment Modernization Act, passed the House of Representatives with a bipartisan vote of 238-181. After passage, Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D., applauded his colleagues’ efforts to repair the sustainable growth rate formula (SGR), and delay Obamacare’s individual mandate for five years. Since its enactment in 1997, Congress has had to pass 16 legislative patches to prevent physician payment cuts which would have endangered seniors’ access to quality healthcare.
“This is a critical step towards replacing this flawed formula and protecting Americans from Obamacare’s harmful impact,” said Gingrey. “As Obamacare threatens doctors with skyrocketing costs that threaten their practices, and individual health insurance consumers stare down the barrel of its penalties, this legislation couldn’t be more timely for the whole of our health care industry.”
