Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D., today requested that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) immediately assess the public risk posed by the influx of unaccompanied migrant children across the southern border. The minors who’ve recently overwhelmed U.S. border control infrastructure – many of which are being transported to shelters around the country – have raised massive concern about mitigating the diseases they bring with them.

“We cannot afford to wait for this to become a full-blown health crisis,” said Gingrey. “As a physician for more than 30 years, I know that these diseases pose great danger to our citizens and can spread too rapidly to control. Our leaders must act swiftly to get ahead of this threat before it gets out of hand, and give the American people the information they deserve on the dangers it poses to their health.”
